Newly Developed Powerful E-Four
The HIGHLANDER Hybrid is available with E-Four- Toyota's motor-assisted four-wheel drive system that simultaneously achieves exceptional driving performance and fuel efficiency for hybrid vehicles. The system produces powerful rear-wheel torque via electric motors, which helps achieve a new dimension in hybrid driving suitable for the HIGHLANDER.
The Trail Mode Switch applies brakes to the freely rotating wheel and distributes optimal torque to the grounded wheel, helping the vehicle smoothly escape from getting stuck on challenging surfaces. The Drive Mode Select Switch allows you to select a driving mode to match driving conditions or your mood.
Detects vehicles (day and night) on the road ahead by using millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera sensors. When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with an object is high, a warning operates to urge the driver to take evasive action and the potential brake pressure is increased to help the driver avoid a collision. If the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with an object is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied to help avoid a collision or reduce the impact of a collision.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
DRCC is equipped with millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera sensors to detect vehicles ahead, and assists following while maintaining a speed-dependent distance to the vehicle in front. When the vehicle in front is stopped, the system keeps your vehicle stopped. When the vehicle ahead moves off, you must resume driver operations to move off and re-start following (with Full Speed Range Following function).
Automatic High Beam
Detects the lights of vehicles ahead and automatically adjusts the headlamps to low or high beam.
Lane Departure Alert
The system warns the driver with a buzzer and alert lamp when the car begins to leave its lane without turn signal activation from the driver. The system can also activate steering assist to correct steering inputs and prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.
Available are driver and front-seat passenger airbags, front side airbags and curtainshield airbags for all three rows.
Blind Spot Monitor
A vehicle in the outer mirror’s blind spot during lane-changing turns the BSM’s mirror indicator on to alert the driver.
Prevents sudden starts and acceleration when changing gears, helping to minimize possible damage.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
The RCTA detects approaching vehicles in hard-to-see areas behind the vehicle when backing up.
