Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd would like to inform owners of owners of Toyota Rav4 of a Special Service Campaign on their vehicles to replace the inflator in the airbag on the driver’s seat side. During the manufacturing of the inflator, The propellant wafers inside the inflator may absorbed the moisture from the air, in the event of a collision that results in the deployment of the driver frontal airbag, the inner pressure of the inflator assembly could increase abnormally and the inflator body could rupture. The ruptured inflator may create metallic projectile fragments that could contact an occupant, increasing the risk of injury.

The subject vehicles are equipped with driver frontal airbag assemblies with single stage inflators. During the manufacturing of the inflator, humidity in the environment may not have been properly controlled. The propellant wafers may have been exposed to the uncontrolled environment when the assembly line was temporarily stopped, increasing the likelihood for the propellant wafers to absorb moisture from the air. If sufficient moisture is absorbed, in the event of a collision that results in the deployment of the driver frontal airbag, the inner pressure of the inflator assembly could increase abnormally and the inflator body could rupture.
